100 years old! Congrats to the Fiat Lux

October 21st, 2013

The Fiat Lux newspaper is 100 years old today! What an accomplishment and tradition to celebrate. A student newspaper is an essential feature of any university or college. It profiles campus life in a way not accomplished in any other form and helps preserve the University’s history through its reporting.

The University Archives celebrates this achievement and encourages the campus to continue its support of the paper. Check out the entire 100-year run of past issues in the campus digital repository, part of the “Campus Publications” collection.

EasyBib for citing sources

August 26th, 2013

Has your professor asked you to cite sources using the APA, Chicago Manual of Style or MLA format? The Alfred libraries now offer EasyBib Library Edition, a service that automatically composes bibliographies. Simply search or enter data for your source and EasyBib will automatically format your citation. EasyBib will also alphabetize your list of references and let you to export this list to word-processing software.

To access EasyBib, click here.

The Alfred libraries continue to subscribe to EndNote, a more powerful online research management tool designed to help researchers at all levels easily gather, organize, store and share all types of information and to instantly generate citations and bibliographies. EndNote is typically more appropriate for large, involved projects, such as Master’s Thesis or Doctoral Dissertations.

If you have questions about either of these services, please Ask a Librarian.

Massage and therapy dog night update

December 13th, 2012

Over 50 students enjoyed a chair massage at the library on Tuesday night, December 11th. They also had the chance to share a moment with “Cole Porter”, a therapy dog who was accompanied by his owner and trainer, Dr. Lisa Lantz, a faculty member in AU’s Performing Arts Division.  Look for massage night and therapy dog night at the end of each semester, during exam week.
